Contract Review Copilot

Clause extraction and precedent search across a private matter archive spanning thousands of agreements, built so every answer a reviewer sees carries a citation back to the exact page it came from — because in this domain, an uncited answer is not a usable one.

Challenge

Matter archives accumulate inconsistent formatting, redlines, and executed-versus-draft ambiguity across decades of agreements. Reviewers needed precedent search that could distinguish a clause's final executed form from earlier negotiation drafts, and needed to trust it without re-reading the whole document every time.

Approach

Clause-level chunking aligned to document structure rather than fixed-length windows, with execution-status metadata attached at ingestion. Retrieval and generation scored separately during evaluation so a wrong answer could be traced to a retrieval miss or a generation error, not left as one opaque failure.

Outcome

Reviewers now use the system as a first pass on precedent search, with every surfaced clause carrying a citation back to the exact page of the source agreement — cutting the time spent manually searching the archive before a review could even begin.
